Tinsel and Glitter 2002 - Part 1

The last weekend in November was the long Blackpool Tinsel and Glitter weekend. As the previous year, I travelled up with Sarah on Thursday arriving just after lunch. This gave me time to do my nails (which always takes me ages) for the evening. For my first dinner outfit I fell back on an old favourite - the black dress and gold lurex dress. As pictures at dinner are usually tricky I decided to grab a few shots in my room before heading down.
It was a bit tricky as my room didn't really have many suitable places to rest the camera but I did my best. I had decided Thursday night would be my clubbing night since it's usually the quietest night in the hotel. So when Jo said she was going out with Paris and Amber, I asked if I could go along. For this trip I decided to choose the leather top, skirt and boots which I had last worn in Scarborough plus a denim jacket to keep my tummy warm - well it was winter after all! To keep my bag light I left the camera at the hotel - wish I hadn't now as I don't have a snap of that outfit !!

Our first stop was the famous Funny Girls club which had recently relocated to a new location in what was once a cinema. They had preserved quite a lot of the old Cinema's best features. The stage is the old main screen area and the bar ran along the front beneath the stage. There are lot's of art deco features too.
I can't say I have ever been a huge fan of this kind of act (girls miming to other peoples records) but never the less the costumes were breathtaking. The DJ did make me smile a bit too as she decided to press-gang one of the off duty male dancers from the audience to join her on stage to dance the Cheeky Girl's song. It was the first time I had heard the song or seen the dance but they both did it with much energy and skill.
The management are a bit stuffy though - Trannies were banned from the ladies loos!! This could be because 80% of the audience were 70 year old women though ! As we were looking for a bit more dancing went next door to Bar-B - a gay bar that was very welcoming. We were approached by two GF's who were quite keen to say high and get us dancing. Of course we obliged . The DJ played a good mix of music and we really enjoyed ourselves but eventually decided it was time for bed if we were to be fresh for the next day.
There were no cabs available outside that club so we strolled into town to find the nearest taxi rank. In the end we settled for a taxi company Paris had used before and chatted to the dispatchers whilst we waited for our ride - a minibus since there were 6 of us by now.

Friday I decided to spend the day shopping so I got up early in order to dress and make up in time for breakfast. As usual I chose sensible jeans, top , flats and denim jacket for my shopping trip as I prefer to blend in rather than attract attention. After breakfast I walked into town. First order of business was a new watch as the battery in my 'gold' one had recently given up and as the watch itself looked rather tired I had decided to replace it.
With my usual uncanny knack I chose a jewellers where the watch counter was manned by a young lad of no more than twenty. But he was charming and patient as pointed out the ones in the window that I wanted to try and he fetched them for me. I found an excellent watch by oasis that had a nifty removable link which allowed me to adjust it nicely to my wrist. I spent the rest of the day looking around for a new outfit in the usual major retailers plus buying a few makeup essentials but didn't find the outfit I craved to wear Saturday night. I got back to the hotel in time for a late lunch and then retired to my room to prepare for the evening.

Me and DawnI had decided to stay in at the hotel for Friday night, giving me a chance to try a few more outfits. As my shopping trip hadn't yielded any results I wore more old favourites. For my first outfit I chose my ankle length black and silver lurex dress with the split to the thigh on the left leg. With it I wore my black slingbacks and 'nude' tights.
Sarah, Jessica, SuzeJoThe usual gang gathered as near to the corner as we could. Jessica was sporting her new short blond hair style which I think really suited her and Suze was in a breathtaking dress. And Elin, Sarah, Dawn and Jo both looked great as usual.
The cabaret was rather disappointing this time but I had already decided that I would be having a night in so, just before the disco started up again , I went to change into something a little more suitable for dancing.
Now I must admit the stretch black jersey dress I wore is perhaps a little short but it was great fun to wear and surprisingly cool to dance in despite the high neck.
I decided to retire at 1am thinking I would get to bed early.

But when I got back to my room I found I was in a bit of a frivolous mood so I attempted a few underwear shots! Sad to say the light wasn't too flattering but I salvaged a couple of them. Then it was time for bed as I had a very busy day planned ......................
