Spring Glitz 2005

The weekend after the Hayway Party we went up to Blackpool for the Spring Glitz. The weather was rather foul when we arrived on the Friday afternoon. The wind was blowing so hard off the sea that we found it difficult to walk with our bags and there was squally rain too. Speaking to those who arrived before us we heard that the waves had actually been crashing onto the road a few hours earlier that day. Fortunately we didn't have any reason to step out that evening as we had the usual meal, disco and entertainment to look forward to.

My first outfit of the evening was the blue suit I had previously worn only once. This time I found the right underwear to allow me to wear the matching halter-neck waistcoat too. And Nicki had kindly found me a matching scrunchee for my ponytail so I was all dressed in duck egg blue.
There were fewer of our friends at this year's event so we were pleased to see that JJ and Sue. Nicki kindly took a snap but refused to let me take her pic - she really is very camera shy sometimes. Of course Cheryl was there with her photo equipment and as I was so happy with the suit I asked her to take a few pics of me, one of which is shown here.
After an hour or two I decided I fancied a change of outfit so Nicki and I headed up to our room. Whilst I was getting ready Nicki admitted that she was just too tired to go back down but that I should definitely head back for a dance or two. She also leant me her pink belt which we both agreed nicely delineated the black top/black skirt/black fishnets combination I had chosen. An hour's vigorous dancing later I was ready for an early night myself so went up to join Nicki, doing my best not to wake her up!

As it happened the trams weren't running this time (due to re-laying the track) so we actually got some uninterrupted sleep for a change. Morning dawned bright and sunny (if still a bit breezy) so I knew we'd be able to have a fun day out. I decided black trousers, a sleeveless blue roll neck jumper and brown boots would be suitable attire and with my hair in a pony tail once more, held in place with a brown scrunchee. After breakfast we put on our warm coats (mine was brown to match the boots) and headed in to town.
It soon became clear that the wind was going to prove an annoyance as my fringe was standing up vertically above my head revealing my too long forehead. Finding a hat became number one shopping priority.
But as is often the case it seemed hats were not in good supply. We looked in a lot of shops (Next, New Look, TX Maxx) and although we found some nice tops (TK Maxx's Saloon door style changing rooms being a bit open for my taste but it was still fun trying stuff on) it looked as though I wouldn't find a suitable hat.
But then we spotted the Accessorize Sale. Now although they didn't have the sort of woolly hat I had in mind Nicki spotted a red 'puffed up' sort of hat that she thought would work with my pony tail.
Happy that my fringe would now stay in place we headed to the sea front to look at the sea and found a nice spot on the North pier to take a picture or too. The seas really were rather spectacular that day.
But our main reason for being out and about that morning was that we knew that a Doctor Who exhibition had opened recently somewhere one the promenade. Rather scattily of me I had forgotten to get the exact address so we spent quite while walking up and down before finally we spied the entrance.
We entered the foyer, bought our tickets and , after a happy few minutes examining all the merchandise, entered the exhibition.
And whht great fun it was too - Nicki and I were really surprised how much they had on display. The exhibition area is much larger than it appears when viewed from outside.
Fifi and WendyThere were exhibits of props and monsters from most of the Doctor's seasons though naturally the first two Doctors had little other than video clips. Some of the exhibits have an interactive element to them too. The final exhibit is Bessie - the Doctor's car - surrounded by a display of around 12 larger monsters. Sadly it was very dark inside so it was hard to get any pics. And as you can see, taking off that hat played havoc with my fringe!

We returned to the hotel for our lunch and a much needed rest ahead of the evening's events. This time I wore my flowery summer dress with white shoes and matching Scrunchee. Nicki wore a lovely little black dress which really suits her - I wish she would let me take a pic of her in it. Maybe next time. After last year I had resolved not to enter the fancy dress competition which certainly allowed me to relax more.

Sue and JJ were there, of course, and so I grabbed a pic or too of them and they kindly took one or two of me. Highlight of the final evening is of course the raffle (regular visitors may detect a note of sarcasm there). Suffice to say this year the prizes were a tiny bit less impressive that usual but we did win a box of tissues, which as it happened we really needed so we we quite happy.
Once again I felt like a change of outfit so I slipped upstairs and put on the red dress that I hadn't had a chance to wear to the Christmas party. Sadly Nicki was exhausted after our long walk that morning so I found myself rejoining the party alone. And indeed more alone than I had expected since Sue And JJ had retired early too. But a half empty dance floor beckoned and even 5 inch stilleto heels weren't going to deter me from my final boogie of the holiday.
Half an hour later and with two very sore feet I headed to bed well satisfied.
